What is Matariki?
In Māori today me and cayleigh worked together and wrote down what Matariki is and what's the purpose is of Matariki. In the Māori language Matariki is both the name of the Pleiades star cluster. And also of the season of its first rising in late May or early June. This is a marker of the beginning of the new year. Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn, Matariki (the Pleiades) signals the Māori New Year. Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life. In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again. Heaven-bound kites, hot-air balloons and fireworks help mark the occasion. hope this helped you out if you didn't really know what the purpose of Matariki and what Matariki is. bye!
